Alexander Mooney is a Toronto-based critic and programmer.
His work has appeared in Toronto Star, Exclaim, Screen Slate, In Review Online, Documentary Magazine, MUBI Notebook, The Globe and Mail, POV, Little White Lies, and Bright Wall/Dark Room. He is also author of the column “Replications,” which explores remakes and retellings at In the Mood Magazine.
During his final year at U of T he was one of the programmers for the Cinema Studies Student Union (CINSSU), where he curated and introduced public screenings for their Free Friday Films and WTF Wednesday series at Innis Town Hall.
He is an active member of GALECA, the Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, and was awarded the 2024 Telefilm Canada Emerging Critic prize by the Toronto Film Critics Association.
